1.Who can check out eBooks from the KRLS 3M Cloud Library?
Any resident of one of Kitchigami Regional Library’s five counties: Beltrami, Cass, Crow Wing, Hubbard, and Wadena who has a valid library card in good standing.

Because of agreements libraries have had to make in order to offer eBook lending, each library system has to limit its lending to residents of its own area.  For example, people with their primary residence in Hennepin County can only use Hennepin County Library’s electronic resources, including eBooks.  Patrons with cards from other Minnesota library systems cannot borrow KRLS eBooks.  In other words, there is no such thing as digital interlibrary loan.

2.What do I need to check out an eBook?
A valid Kitchigami Regional Library card in good standing and a PIN* are needed to create a KRLS 3M Cloud Library account. You must also have your own device to read and access eBooks as eReaders will not be available for check out.

*If you do not remember your library PIN, please call your local library for assistance.

3. What eReaders are compatible with the 3M Cloud Library?

  • Android Phones or Tablets
  • iPods, iPads, and iPhones
  • Barnes & Noble Nook: Color, Tablet, HD, and HD+
  • Barnes & Noble Nook: First Edition, Simple Touch, and Simple Touch with Glowlight
  • Kindle Fire and Fire HD
  • Other devices: Kobo, Literati, Pandigital, and Sony

4. Why won’t it let me login?
Your library card may have expired and need to be updated (this happens once a year), or you may need to clear outstanding fines.  Please call your local library for assistance.

Also, be sure you are entering your library card barcode without spaces.

5. How do I find books available to check out right now?
Where to find this filter varies by device.  On some devices, the option to search for Available Now titles will be available under the Filters option. On other devices, the option to search for Books available for checkout may appear under the Advanced Search option.

6. I downloaded an eBook, where is it on my eReader?
eBooks borrowed from the 3M Cloud Library may show up in different places depending on the type of eReader you are using. If your eBook does not appear where items you purchase typically show up, try looking in other places on your eReader like Files, My Files, My Stuff, My Documents, or Digital Editions.

7. How do I change the font size?
On an eReader, tablet, or phone, tapping in the center area of an open eBook will reveal more options including the option to change font size. Depending on the device you are using, the exact location of where to change font size will vary.

8.How do holds work?
You may place up to 10 holds at one time on items you would like to borrow, but are currently checked out by another user. After a hold is placed, the progress of the hold is shown within your My Books screen.  An estimated wait period is given based on the number of people ahead of you on the waiting list.

When the book becomes available, a message will appear in your Message Center telling you that you may now download the book.  You can also enable your account so that you receive an e-mail notification when your eBooks become available.  This can be done by going to My Books and then selecting Account Profile. In your Account Profile make sure Yes, notify me is selected and enter an e-mail address you access frequently.

Once your hold becomes available you will have 3 days to download the book before the hold is removed.

9.Why is there a waiting list for eBooks?
Purchasing eBooks is like purchasing physical books. Libraries must purchase the rights for each copy in our collection and only 1 person can borrow 1 copy at a time.  Just like physical books, multiple copies of popular eBooks are purchased to reduce waiting periods.

10.How do I return an eBook early?
eBooks can be returned early, but the process differs by device if returning through an app.  Another option for returning an eBook anyone can use is to log into Kitchigami Regional Library’s 3M Cloud Library and clicking on the My Books tab. Clicking the Check In button next to the book you would like to return from the Currently Reading Tab will return your book.

11.What is a “Wish List”?
The “Wish List” on the 3M Cloud Library is a way to suggest titles for the Library to purchase. When you finish reading a book, a number of similar titles will appear.  If the library does not own these titles, you can add the books to a “Wish List”. The list goes directly to library staff so they have an idea of what types of books people are interested in reading.

12.How do I delete something from my device after I’m finished?
This varies widely by device. On the 3M app for iPhones and iPads, the book will simply disappear after you check it in. But on some eReaders you have to take further action – on some you tap the book jacket and hold it and a menu pops up, and on some you swipe to delete.  For some devices you may have to connect it to your PC and open My Computer, select the device (often listed as “Removable Device”) and delete the files from the list of files on that device.  Please look at your device’s instructions for further information.
